SOUTH RIM OF THE GRAND CANYON - 75 miles from Flagstaff lies the Grand Canyon. Enough said, just go to the South Rim and just stand there in awe! MONUMENT VALLEY - Two and one half hours from Flagstaff to the north and east through the Navajo reservation and some really spectacular scenery. Known the world over for its red rock towers and sculptures it is a masterpiece in the heart of Navajoland. NAVAJO NATIONAL MONUMENT - Two hours north and east of Flagstaff lies Betatakin and Keet Seel ruins. Guided hikes and horseback tours are available with Navajo guides into the ancient past. Reservations are required. HOPI VILLAGES - A one and one half hour drive north of flagstaff starts you on an adventure to the three mesas inhabited by the Hopi Tribe. The Hopi have weekend ceremonies and Kachina dancers open to the public during the summer, but no photography is allowed. CANYON DE CHELLY NATIONAL MONUMENT - In eastern Arizona lies one of the most dynamic sites to be seen in the world. This natural wonder includes a prehistoric cliff dwelling 1,000 feet above the valley floor, reached by the ancient Anasazi Indians via hand and toe holds chipped out of the canyon walls. This popular site can be made into and all day event or another interesting stop along the way. Guided tours led by the Navajo are available through the valley into the box canyon where many native americans still maintain their homes and farm. PAGE/LAKE POWELL/GLEN CANYON DAM - Two hours from Flagstaff lies Page, Arizona, the northernmost city in Arizona. Page overlooks the huge Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell. Lake Powell is 182 miles long with approximately 2,000 miles of shoreline offering enjoyment for all water related sports. The Glen Canyon Dam has many exhibits and self-guided tours. Also offered are scenic flights, river rafting, fishing, boat rentals and several boat tours including Rainbow bridge. SEDONA - 25 miles south of Flagstaff on scenic highway 89A through Oak Creek Canyon, one of America's most scenic drives, lies the RED ROCK city of Sedona, a spiritual vortex city with fabulous cliffs and mesas of red rock. Frank Lloyd Wright's famous chapel in the rocks is here and well as world famous shopping and dining. LAS VEGAS - 4 HOURS, NEED WE SAY MORE? |
